Northeastern baseball’s Jason Vosler has been selected in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft by the Chicago Cubs.

The 6-foot-1-inch shortstop from West Nyack, N.Y. was picked in the 16th round, 469th overall.

After his final season at Northeastern, Vosler was named to the All-CAA First Team and received New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Second Team honors. He broke the school assists record with 164 this season.

A number of Northeastern players have gone on to have success in the big leagues. In 2006, the St. Louis Cardinals picked Northeastern’s Adam Ottavino with the 30th selection of the draft.

Next season’s head coach and a Northeastern graduate himself, Mike Glavine was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 1995 amateur draft. His major league experience came in 2003 when he joined the New York Mets.

Vosler isn’t the only Northeastern player who received good news after the season ended. Freshman pitcher Dustin Hunt was named a 2014 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. The four-time CAA Rookie of the Week recipient had a 2.50 ERA and 73 strikeouts. He started 12 games this season.
