Lights Out 4 Leukemia boxing event and fundraiser, organized in part by Northeastern alumni Dante Boyer, will be held Sept. 13 at St. James Hall in Watertown to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).

Boyer and his close friend and business partner Joe LaFrange, are on the executive leadership committee of this year’s event. The duo, who met as amateur boxers, coach the 20 fighters participating in the event. Training sessions occur three times a week leading up to the fundraiser. More than half of the boxers are first-time fighters who hope to help strike down leukemia.

Boyer and LaFrange started The Lab World Group in 2010, making one of the company goals to give back to the community. They were introduced to LLS in 2012. In 2013, they participated in Boston’s Light the Night Walk, an event to raise money for the LLS Boston chapter.

Both men have had family members and friends die from cancer so they have a personal incentive to help raise money for cancer patients.

“Cancer patients and their loved ones get in the ring every day to fight for their lives,” LaFrange said. “They truly inspire us. Together we can do our part to put an end to leukemia, and all cancers.”

Tickets are available online at lightsout4leukemia.com. Doors open at 7 p.m.
