iPod Ambush, 1/19

By Rachel Stevens, News Correspondent

As part of an occasional series, The News ambushed unsuspecting students and demanded they justify the songs that played when their iPods were put on shuffle, however embarrassing.
Here are the results.

Becca Arcidiacono, freshman, undeclared

“Join Together” by The Who
“This song is my favorite song by The Who. It is really upbeat and catchy and gets me pumped up.”

“The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World
“I knew the song when I was little, and then I started playing it on Rock Band and learned all the words. It is a good song.”

“Gravity Rides Everything” by Modest Mouse
“This is my favorite Modest Mouse song because it is calming. I listen to it all the time because it puts me in a good mood. The lyrics have personal meaning to me which is also why I like it.”

“This Town” by Sex God
“This song really makes me think about my hometown, Pleasantville, N.Y. It is kind of depressing so I listen to it when I am in a sad mood.”

Ryan Punzalan, middler, journalism major

“Monster” by Kanye West (feat. Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, and Bon Iver)
“It always gets me hyped as they say, and I will always start rapping Nicki Minaj’s part because it’s absolutely absurd and ridiculous.”

“Sliding Down the Pole” by E-40
“Probably the dirtiest song on my iPhone at the moment. Let’s just say the title of the song explains it all.”

“Here Comes the Hotstepper” by Ini Kamoze
“One of my favorite dancehall songs of all time. I practically play this song every day since it gets me on my feet and ready for the day.”

“Find Your Love” by Drake
“I’m not a huge Drake fan. ‘Find Your Love’ will always be my favorite. I guess I like his singing voice rather than his monotone rapping voice.”

Colleen Murphy, freshman, business major

“Instant Pleasure” by Seth Swirsky
“I don’t really like this song much, to be honest. I have not listened to it in years. I probably should take it off my iPod, it is wasting space.”

“Spotlight” by Gucci Mane
“This is a good pre-game song before a hockey game. It is a catchy tune that gets stuck in your head.”

“Gives You Hell” by The All-American Rejects
“This song got annoying real fast. It kind of makes me angry, like I would want to punch something.”

“Cry for You” by September
“I would not specifically choose to listen to this song, but in a shuffle it is nice to get a random song like that. It is techno so the beat is pretty cool.”
