Liam Hofmeister is serving his first semester at The Huntington News as Editor-in-Chief . He is a sophomore majoring in both journalism and theater.
Liam is from Sayville, N.Y. where he interned at two local newspapers before starting his sophomore year. Last semester, he served as the News’ entertainment guru as the inside editor. He is currently on his first co-op as a general assignment reporter at the Patriot Ledger.
Late to the game of journalism, Liam had no experience in news writing until winter 2015 when his friends dragged him to a Huntington News meeting. After writing his first story, Liam was sold and he continued to work for the paper as an inside news correspondent.
At Northeastern University, he has worked as a commissioned playwright for Silver Masque, a cheerful mailman, delivering letters via the “Underground Mailroad,” and he has traveled to Ecuador with Northeastern’s Alternative Spring Break to help develop community infrastructure in a rural village.
He loves writing, acting, reading plays and playing his mandolin. Liam hopes to pair his skills in journalism and playwriting to reignite theater that makes a cultural impact. In the meantime, though, he’ll be pestering his staff with endless emails about the News.
