As the semester comes to a close, finals approach and the stress of the holidays comes along, – keep your sanity by enjoying the best of what Boston has to offer. String up some lights, pour some peppermint schnapps and perfect your Mariah Carey lip-sync, here’s this year’s round-up of budget friendly activities.

Oh, Christmas Tree:
Light up the night with Boston’s 71st annual Boston Common Tree Lighting. Grab your friends, pack some hot, mulled wine and head down to the Boylston St. T stop from 6 to 8 p.m. and enjoy the musical medley while Mayor Thomas M. Menino presents our friend, Santa Claus as he flips the switch on Boston’s favorite tree. Price: Free.

See The Sights:
If you’ve never seen the Boston cityscape after a fresh snowfall, you’re missing out. Head up to the Prudential Skywalk and marvel in the picturesque 360 degree views or head on over to the “Top of the Hub” restaurant and relax with a cup of hot cocoa. A must for those who love holiday views. Price: $10 student admission.

A Taste of New England:
There’s nothing better than a steaming bowl of soup to warm the spirits on a blustery Boston afternoon. Check out Stephanie’s on Newbury (190 Newbury Street) for a delicious portion of New England clam chowder, lobster bisque or chicken noodle soup or gather ’round the fireplace and enjoy a warm sticky bun sundae. Price: $12.

Hit The Rink:
The holidays aren’t complete without a night spent at the Boston Common Frog Pond. Whether you’re a seasoned or newbie skater, the pond is a perfect outing to start your holiday. Lace-up with your friends or call it a date night and join in on the festivities. Price: $4 entry, $9 skate rental, Tuesdays are college nights for half price entry.

Holiday Cheer(s):
Get the party started with some 21+ fun at the Boston Beer Company. Take a one-hour complimentary tour of the Sam Adams Brewery or opt for the lager sampling Harpoon tour for $5.

Alpine Adventure:
Novice or not, New England is a great place to enjoy some downhill ski or snowboarding action. Bradford Ski Area in Bradford is only about 25 minutes north of Boston and boasts affordable rates for night skiing. Rentals available. Price: $17. More information at www.skibradford.com.

Finding Nemo:
The weather outside may be frightful, but the aquarium is always delightful. Hop on the blue line and over to the New England Aquarium and let you inner child out for some under-the-sea-fun. Go fish. Price: $22.95.

Holy Cannoli:
The North End is an experience not to be missed this season, indulge in your sweet tooth and check out the decadent desserts at Mike’s Pastry. Warm up with some eggnog and a lobster tail to enjoy the festive Italian tradition.

Go Green:
For the avid sports fan, spread your holiday cheer at the Garden and catch a home-court Boston Celtics game. This December, whether you’re courtside or standing binocular-bound up in the mezzanine, a basketball game at the TD Garden is always a good time. Price: tickets starting at $15. More info at www.ticketmaster.com.

Bah, Humbug:
Get rid of the Scrooge in you and keep it classic this holiday season with a dramatic reading of Charles Dickens’ timeless holiday tale “A Christmas Carol.” Enjoy the live piano music held in the Old South Church, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. Price: $8.

Santa Speedo Run
For a funny holiday sight, or for those who long for the underwear run of Parent’s Weekend, the Santa Speedo Run is a December Boston tradition. Runners dressed in only Speedos, sneakers and Santa hats run 12 blocks. Participants must be 21 or older to register for a fee of $30 and a commitment of raising $400. All the proceeds go to local children’s charities. For those under 21 or not brave enough to “bare” their legs, you can watch the excitement on Boylston and Newbury Streets at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.
