The Northeastern field hockey team may not have much in common with the Anaheim Angels, but one thing is for certain: both teams can win at home.
The Angels are riding a seven-game home winning streak into the World Series that dates back to the regular season. Like Disney’s team, the Huskies are riding a seven-game home winning streak that covers this entire season. When last season is factored in, the Huskies’ winning streak becomes 12 games.
“It’s always great to get a win at home and keep that going,” said Northeastern head coach Cheryl Murtagh following NU’s 2-0 home win over Fairfield on Sunday afternoon.
When Northeastern takes the field against the University of California at Berkeley on Friday, over a year will have passed since the last Husky loss at home, a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Connecticut on Oct. 17, 2001. The Huskies followed that loss with a 7-0 win over Albany on Oct. 19 and the current streak was born.
“Everyone feels comfortable at home,” said senior Sarah Broderick, who was previously unaware of the streak. “Pretty much everybody’s parents come to our games, especially at home.”
Parents and friends were certainly present at the Fairfield win
