Northeastern women’s soccer (3-7-6, 2-4-3 CAA) finished with a 0-0 draw against the Monmouth Hawks (10-5-2, 5-3-1 CAA) Oct. 26, concluding the 2025 season for the Huskies.
Junior goalkeeper and captain Eliza Teplow tied her career-high with 11 saves to keep the game scoreless. Her performance in this game earned her CAA Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Within seconds of the opening whistle, the Hawks immediately accelerated into their attacking third, threatening Northeastern’s net with back-to-back dangerous shots.
Senior forward and captain Maggie Cochran responded with the first shot for the Huskies in the fifth minute, but Monmouth quickly regained control. By the 21st minute, the Hawks had already tallied 12 shots. Teplow made three key saves to preserve the tie.
At the conclusion of the first half, the Huskies had one shot, and the Hawks had 17. However, a strong defensive presence and skilled goalkeeping kept Northeastern in the game.
The Huskies generated some momentum in the second half, tallying six shots total by the end of the game. Freshman forward Nicole Bartlett placed a shot toward the bottom right of the goal in the 63rd minute, but sophomore goalkeeper Alex Scott pulled out the save. Sophomore forward Lughano Nyondo followed with another shot a minute later, which went out past the left post.
In the 76th minute, graduate student forward Bridget Gleason took a shot that sailed high. Four minutes later, sophomore midfielder Giulia Karrow sent one wide left of the frame. Senior midfielder and captain Lauren Dupont took the final shot of the game in the 89th minute, which went over the net as well.
Freshman defender Ava Gialanella played the full 90 minutes in the back line, working with the rest of Northeastern’s defense to hold the draw. Gialanella has been a staple of the Huskies’ back line this season, dominating on defense and sending long balls and set pieces from the back. Given the differential in shots, the scoreless tie was a hard-fought, solid result for the Huskies.
However, results throughout the CAA this weekend determined that Northeastern fell just short of a CAA Tournament spot, thus concluding its 2025 season. The Huskies tied the Campbell Camels (4-7-5, 2-4-3 CAA) for ninth place of 12 teams overall.
Northeastern faced a frustrating streak of ties and losses this season. The Huskies were successful in their possession and prevented chances on goal, but struggled to convert offensively and gave up multiple late-game goals. If the Huskies can improve their offensive game, solidify their shape and possession and maintain composure until the final whistle, they will have plenty of potential for a successful 2026 season.
