This is the year of bold fashion choices, flowing clothes and statement pieces. It’s the season to dig through your local thrift shop before you go pay for an expensive outfit at a high-end department store. All of this season’s styles are easy for any college student to work into their current wardrobe, with simple pieces that will add flare to any outfit.
It’s easy to pull off any type of vintage prints by simply pairing the item with a more contemporary piece to finish off the outfit.
Studs aren’t just for punk rockers anymore. They are everywhere – flats, boots, sweaters, collars and even phone cases are all popular accessories that gives you the edge you’re looking for. If you’re afraid of looking too hardcore, pair a studded sweater with a long loose skirt for an alternative look.
Before you put that shirt back on the clothing rack, know that high necklines aren’t just for conservative moms anymore. They can be chic and elegant on any girl. Whether you’re heading to a formal event or just to class, grab a dress or shirt with a high neckline for a dash of sophistication.
Peplums can add pizzaz to any outfit. Peplums, or overskirts, are elongated hems – kind of resembling a short skirt – that are worn over shirts, dresses or leggings. Choose a soft material that drapes your waist nicely to outline your midsection and you’ll be ready to hit the runway or the hallway.
Oriental patterns, such as those found on traditional kimonos, are in this season and can be easily pulled off by anyone with any body type. This feminine, whimsical and flattering look is a keeper, just make sure you don’t wear them with other busy patterns – or you’ll be an eyesore to others.
Floor length skirts and dresses don’t have to be matronly, in fact, they are an easy fix to make any outfit look graceful. Pair with a structured top or a simple sweater that hits slightly below your hips and isn’t too bulky for a Hollywood look.
When done right, sheer button-down shirts can be mega-classy. When paired with skinnies, it turns into a fun, chic look that you could wear any day of the week.
Suit jackets and tailored pants are also a great go-tos to dress up any outfit. If you’re feeling a little to plain, throw on an oversized blazer with some chunky jewelry and flats to make a statement.
Whether you’re a true fashionista or someone just looking to be more hip this season, make sure to keep an eye out for hot colors this season such as red, gold, black and white. Other than fun thrift shops and local Goodwill, more high-end stores like Zara, Topshop, Anthropologie and All Saints are great sources to get the most fashionable looks of the year. Whatever your fashion sense may be, make sure to rock it with confidence this season.
