With Valentine’s Day around the corner, many of you may be stressing about what the perfect gift is to get your boyfriend, girlfriend, hook-up, fiancée, etc. Whether you’ve been dating for two weeks or two years, here are some great gift ideas for your significant other.
FOR YOUR GIRL:
Thought that counts:
Plan an evening
This is a gift that’s not as material, but will certainly be memorable and can be catered to please any type of girl. Start with your attire and build the night from there. Pick out your best dress clothes and leave her a note or send a cute text saying Happy Valentine’s Day, and to wear her favorite dress; she’s yours for the night. On to dinner: Take her out to her favorite place or channel your inner Chef Rocco Dispirito (wouldn’t hurt if you looked like him, too), and cook her a meal. After dinner, take her back to your place for a movie, where you’ve got popcorn and her favorite wine ready. Or go for a walk, get ice cream, snuggle up in your favorite pajamas and listen to music – play Monopoly for all I care; the point of this is to show her that the number one thing you want to do is spend time with her. For this to work out, you’ll have to think it out, get creative and pay attention to the details, but it will be worth it in the end (and may pay off for you at the end of the night).
To Impress:
Alex and Ani bracelets
If you haven’t heard of these bracelets before, chances are your girl has. Alex and Ani bracelets are functional, adorable and American made. Plus, each bracelet has a charm with a special meaning, so you can find the perfect one for her. I’d recommend the “My Other Half” Charm Bangle, the “Key to My Heart” Charm Bangle or the “Claddagh” Charm Bangle, a traditional Irish symbol of love. These bracelets are made to be stacked, so if she already has one or two, another is the perfect addition.

Classic:
Flowers
Guys, hear me when I say this: you can’t go wrong with roses. Valentine’s Day is for you to show her that you care, and nothing says “you matter to me” more than a dozen red roses. On a day like Valentine’s Day, a bouquet is a girl’s accessory of choice and she will tote those flowers with her like her favorite handbag. Too expensive? Try a single red rose and tie a ribbon around it with a handwritten note. She’ll be weak in the knees from your romantic prowess.
Try Boston City Florist on Commonwealth Avenue. According to their website, www.bostoncityflorist.com, they offer free delivery, and two free roses and up to $7 off when you mention their website.
FOR YOUR GUY:
Thought that counts:
Cook Him Dinner
What better day to let your guy know how lucky he is to have you than Valentine’s Day? Whether you have a cozy night in or romantic picnic planned, this is your chance to treat your man and yourself by cooking a great meal, putting on that little black dress and strutting your stuff. Everyone knows that when you look great, it doesn’t really matter what the food tastes like anyway. So dress to the nines and let him know he’s got himself a ten.
To Impress:
Watch
A watch for a guy is pretty much the equivalent of a diamond ring – without the commitment. There’s a watch for every type of guy, colorful and ultra-cool, classy and sophisticated, or classic and functional. It’s a great functional gift, he’ll appreciate the money you spent on him, and it may help him be on time next time you have plans.
Classic:
Romantic Shopping Spree
Great style is the gift that keeps on giving for both of you. February in Boston could mean the guy in your life has taken to wearing his favorite flannel four out of seven days a week and borderline pajamas the remaining three. Treat him to a shopping spree and buy him that oh-so-sexy sweater he’s (you’ve) had his (your) eye on.
