Two members of the Northeastern men’s track team brought Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) medals back to Huntington Avenue last weekend, and freshman Lucy Young earned a first-place finish for the women at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships.
Sophomore Wesley Gallagher finished second in the 1,500-meter run at the IC4A championships with a time of 3:50.13. Senior Kaylin Miranda captured third place in the long jump with a mark of 7.40 meters.
Young won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the ECAC meet with a Northeastern-record time of 10:17.05. The rookie’s mark currently ranks 17th in the NCAA East Region and 35th nationally.
Fellow freshman Jordan O’Dea also had a standout performance in the steeplechase. She finished fourth overall with the second-best time in NU history, clocking in at 10:30.85.
Qualifying members of both the men’s and women’s squads will head to Jacksonville, Fla. Thursday, May 29 for the NCAA East Preliminary Round Championships.
