The Northeastern men’s and women’s cross country teams raced their way to second and fourth place finishes at Saturday’s Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships.
The runners pushed through the rain and the mud at Franklin Park, led by graduate student Zachary Fraielli, seniors Zachary Krause and Stephen Sollowin and sophomores Lucy Young and Jordan O’Dea.
Fraielli, Krause and Sollowin have been placed onthe All-CAA team with their top-12 finishes in the 8K. They have each been named to the team in past years.
Fraielli, the team’s most consistent runner, finished in 25:05.73 for third place. Freshmen Christian Stafford and Ben Trapani, junior Paul Duffey and graduate student Charles Conway all finished in the top 19.
The men’s strong performances earned them a total score of 48, finishing behind the College of William & Mary’s score of 36. The William & Mary men have now won the CAA Championships 15 years in a row. Elon University senior Luis Vargas took home the individual gold in the 8K with a time of 24:11:36.
Like Fraielli, Young had similar success on the women’s side with a 20:57.78 time and a second place finish in the 6K. Her impressive performance marked the third race in which she landed in the top three this year. O’Dea finished in 12th place with a time of 21:45.50, followed by freshman Madeline Bradford and Kerri Ruffo, helping the team to a score of 118.
Like the men’s team, the William & Mary women were dominant, earning a score of 35. Their first place spot is the team’s 20th first place finish in history.
Next, the Huskies will head to New York for the NCAA Northeastern Regional Championships on Nov. 14.
