The Northeastern University (NU) swimming and diving team competed against Long Island University Brooklyn at the Barletta Natatorium on Saturday afternoon, racing their way to a 181-74 dual-meet win.

The meet was a celebration for the team’s four seniors in the final home contest of their Northeastern careers. Seniors Taylor Brew, Sophie Browne, Amanda Liew and Megan Rutter were accompanied by their families as they were honored for four years of dedication to Northeastern swimming and diving.

In the opening event, freshman Kierstin Chu, junior Tove Bjork, sophomore Sara Touchette-McGowan and Liew combined to snag first place in the 200 medley. Their time was 1:48.15, less than two seconds behind the time posted last weekend by sophomore Christine Leong, and juniors Delaney Lanker, Taylor Ellis and Rachel Green.

After the 200 medley, freshman Sophie Tallier displayed amazing endurance en route to a first-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle. She clocked in with a time of 10:48.69.

Touchette-McGowan posted two first-place finishes , winning the 50 freestyle and the 50 butterfly. In the 100 butterfly, Lanker claimed the win by posting a time of 57.43, a fraction of a second slower than Touchette-McGowan’s time last weekend.

In addition to the day’s swimming events, Northeastern competed in an exhibition diving meet with Babson College. Freshman Mackenzie Hagist surpassed her previous best score in the three-meter dive, posting a score of 259.95 points.

“I’m very glad for the seniors. I’m glad they had the opportunity to shine. They deserve it,” head coach Roy Coates said. “They’ve been a great representation of the team and we’ll miss them greatly.”

The Huskies will turn their sights to a meet with another pack of Huskies: NU will head to the University of Connecticut for the Husky Invitational on Saturday.
