In its final meet of the regular season, the Northeastern University (NU) swimming and diving team turned out a strong showing in the Connecticut Husky Invitational at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium in Storrs, Conn. on Sunday. Though the meet was not scored, the Huskies placed first in nine of the day’s events.

Junior Delaney Lanker highlighted the day’s competition by breaking a Northeastern record in the 100 individual medley with a time of 59.39. Her time ranks second among all Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) swimmers in the 100 individual medley this season. She surpassed the previous record of 1:01.62, set by Jill Kearns in 2010.

Sophomore Sara Touchette-McGowan set a new pool record in the 100 butterfly, landing a time of 54.69. Touchette-McGowan also splashed her way to a season-best 51.35 in the 100 freestyle and earned a win in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.77.

The sophomore pair of Amit Palkovic and Anila Mehta finished strong in their final meet of the season. Mehta came in second in the day’s first event, the 500 freestyle, behind freshman teammate Madeline Wolf. Palkovic finished second in the 200 breaststroke.

“It was a terrific meet today,” head coach Roy Coates said. “Anila, Amit and Maddie finished their season very strong. I am very proud of their performances.”

Freshman Carly Schnabel topped her previous best in the 100 backstroke, clocking in with a time of 58.20. She finished first in the event.

With the Huskies rounding out their regular season on a high note, the CAA championships kick off on Saturday Feb. 20. The diving championships will take place on Feb. 20 and Feb. 21 at the University of Delaware with the swimming championships scheduled from Feb. 24-27 at Richmond University.
