The Boston Police Department reported a shooting in the Ruggles MBTA station at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. The Northeastern University Police Department informed Northeastern students of the shooting in an email sent over an hour later.

The suspects fled the scene immediately in a direction away from campus. Original reports stated a victim unaffiliated with NU was identified, but a 9:31 p.m. follow-up email from NUPD said that “contrary to [the Transit Police’s] earlier reports, there is no victim in the incident.”

The MBTA Transit police will continue to investigate this incident, according to NUPD.

NUPD said there is not an ongoing threat to the Northeastern community at this time, but officers will increase patrols in the area “out of an abundance of caution.”

Updated Oct. 31 at 9:40 p.m to include clarifying information from NUPD.
