Since Aug. 2, the Franklin Park Zoo has opened its doors to families, students and tourists to take pleasure in an annual immersive walkthrough of lantern displays and activities. This year’s showcase was made to highlight the significance of conserving the planet’s biodiversity.
With interactive displays, family activities and plenty of Instagrammable moments, Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience, which runs through Nov. 3, offers an adventurous collection for all community members. Whether dancing on the stepping pad that lights up or playing with animal-themed musical instruments, children and families have the opportunity to enjoy a magical night full of mirth, joviality and fun.
While looking at the bright displays, guests can also try their luck at a scavenger hunt. Throughout the zoo there are hidden treasure boxes, which visitors can capture a picture of and share with staff to receive a special gift.
While many of the animals are asleep during Boston Lights, guests may be able to spot camels, prairie dogs, farm animals, birds or kangaroos. This year, Boston Lights expanded the exhibit’s size for guests to experience the abundant displays. Visitors got to view many displays, including a 76-foot Chinese lantern, a 115-foot octopus or ocean tunnel as part of the underwater paradise section and an abundance of floral and animal lanterns.
In an effort to bring the dazzling experience to the Franklin Park Zoo, Zoo New England partnered with Tianyu Arts & Culture, Inc. For those interested in experiencing Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience, the showcase starts at 5 p.m. each evening and runs to 10:30 p.m. Guests can get tickets and take advantage of the food, beverages and snacks offered at the zoo. The zoo also offers discounted tickets for college students, Massachusetts electronic benefit transfer and Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program cardholders and groups of 20 or more people.
