Northeastern baseball will face off against Harvard, Boston College and University of Massachusetts Amherst, or UMass Amherst, April 29 in the first Baseball Beanpot at Fenway Park since 2019.
The tournament first started in 1990 and was held at Fenway during its conception until 2011, with the exception of 2004 and 2010. From 2011 and 2019, the championship and consolation games alternated between Fenway and home stadiums. In 2020 and 2021, the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19 but returned in 2022 and has been played at the schools’ home fields since.
Boston College has had the most success in the tournament, winning 15 championships. UMass Amherst and Northeastern both have seven wins, and Harvard has five. Boston University played in the first five Beanpots, failing to pick up a championship win, until their baseball team was dismantled.
Northeastern won last year’s championship with a 7-0 win over BC and a 12-1 semifinal win over UMass Amherst. The Huskies hope to pick up their eighth tournament win and start a winning streak. General admission tickets for the championship and consolation games are being sold for $15 on the Red Sox website.
