Senators in the Student Government Association (SGA) voted to reaffirm the student body’s call for fossil fuel divestment on Monday night, the same day the DivestNU coalition began an indefinite occupation of Centennial Common.
Members of DivestNU, a student-led campaign working to persuade Northeastern to end all investment in the fossil fuel industry, began pitching tents on Centennial Common at 7:45 this morning.

Boston Police Department (BPD) reported a stabbing near Speare Place. Numerous callers confirmed a man with blood all over him was walking near Stetson West and the Fenway. Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD), BPD, Boston Fire Department (BFD) and Boston Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived on the scene. Witnesses stated that after the male went toward the Fenway, he walked toward Cahners Hall. NUPD checked the area with negative results and no further information was available, as witnesses only saw one man leave the area and did not see the stabbing occurred. BPD located the victim, unaffiliated with NU, at Agassiz Way and Park Drive. BPD assumed jurisdiction.
Cookin, a Northeastern student startup, placed fifth at the annual pitch competition “Beantown Throwdown” on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Cookin gives users step-by-step shopping lists and recipes aimed at making cooking more convenient and affordable.
Around 150 data scientists, journalists and innovators filled the Curry Student Center mezzanine to capacity on Wednesday for the inaugural HUBweek hackathon. The four-hour event focused on how data science and reporting could be synthesized to foster social good.
The Resident Student Association (RSA) works hard to provide students with a variety of ways to spend their free time. Last weekend, this included the opportunity to make history. On Sept. 25, 376 students broke the Guinness World Records achievement of the most people crab walking. The previous record was 279, held by the Amitie Sports Club in Kobe, Hyogo, Japan.
The Northeastern University Baja Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) took to Boston Common on Sunday, Sept. 26, for the fifth annual Boston Cup classic car show.
Built in 1759, the Longfellow House of Cambridge, Massachusetts has quite the history. A National Historic Site, the house served as George Washington’s headquarters during the Revolutionary War. If that wasn’t enough, the site was later home to poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow from 1837 to 1882. Now, Northeastern University has received a grant from the National Park Service to help showcase the property’s expansive history.
Overcoming widespread beliefs that American millennials have no wish to be politically engaged, the Northeastern University (NU) Student Government Association (SGA) and 16 other campus organizations have launched a nonpartisan effort called Northeastern Votes. The movement, which started just before the first day of fall classes, is focused on democratic participation and voter registration.
