Northeastern Reflections: John Tobin

April 19, 2013
For my whole life, Marathon Day has meant spring is here. A lifelong Bostonian, I knew that on this day the Sox would play their only morning game, right here in Fenway Park, and then the best runners from all over the world would join regular men and women from across the country on the brutally glorious 26.2-mile trek into Copley Square. Thousands of people gather along the route early in the morning. Thousands more sit in the bleachers at Fenway and then pour out into the streets to catch the end of the big race.

BREAKING: Shelter in place order in the city of Boston

April 19, 2013
The city of Boston and much of the surrounding area is under a "shelter in place" declaration as police continue an "ongoing manhunt for a person wanted in connection with Monday’s Marathon bombings," the state website said. All students and staff should stay in doors. Be sure to keep doors locked and stay away from windows to stay safe. The university will remain closed, all campus events are cancelled, and meal service will be provided to students living in residence halls without a dining hall. Keep updated as the events unfold with @HuntNewsNU and watch for further NU ALERT e-mails and text messages. Call NUPD 617-373-2121 if you notice anything that requires their attention.

Best of NU: Best Campus Show

April 18, 2013
Springfest always brings in big artists to campus, and this year the Council for University Programs (CUP) did not disappoint, getting rapper Kid Cudi to headline. With the thumping bass, the slightly intoxicated fans and the sold out arena, Cudi absolutely impressed. The opening acts were equally impressive, as indie rock bands Cage the Elephant and the Cults performed at Matthews Arena. Three students injured, many others bore witness

Jennifer Li was steps away from the first bomb. There was a fleeting moment of stunned silence. Smoke rose in the air and people fell to the pavement, bleeding. A sophomore chemistry major, it was Li’s first visit to the Boston Marathon, a hallmark of the city’s Patriots’ Day celebration each year. On Monday, two explosions rocked the finish line on Boylston Street, killing three people and injuring more than 170 others.

On Tuesday, President Joseph E. Aoun announced in an email to the Northeastern community that the university would hold a vigil that afternoon, “in support of those who have been affected by the tragedy at the Boston Marathon.”

Northeastern prof. Levin discusses marathon bombings

April 18, 2013
Students at Northeastern held hands, huddled around televisions and fought back tears when the news of the explosions at the marathon finish line broke Monday afternoon. Work was put aside, celebrations ended abruptly and prior commitments were cancelled or forgotten as the community came together to try and understand why this happened.

April 11, 2013
Dorm rooms, dining halls and the library: For students, a Husky Card often seems more like a master key than a student ID, and soon it will have more features than ever before.
