December 8, 2011
The News printed a follow-up article this week about the controversy surrounding the appearance of Norman Finkelstein, a writer and lecturer about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, at Northeastern University.

All Hail: Know what charities you donate to

December 8, 2011
The holiday season is here again, and with it comes the wonderful traditions and activities we participate in every year. For many people, the sound of The Salvation Army bell is familiar and comforting, something that signifies the holidays are truly here. Outside restaurants and shopping malls, churches and grocery stores, bell ringers stand next to that classic bright red kettle, encouraging you to drop some change or even a few dollars into the pot.

Column: Ode to Northeastern: Nostalgia sets in

December 1, 2011
If last Monday’s “Senior Night” at the Pour House Bar & Grill confirmed one presumption, it was the notion that I won’t know the majority of students walking across the stage on graduation day in May.

Letter: Instructors should not voice opinion to class

December 1, 2011
I feel morally compelled to bring attention to an incident that occurred in a Middle East studies course that directly attacked the academic integrity of Northeastern University.

Letter: The American elephant

November 28, 2011

October’s affirmative UNESCO vote for admission of Palestine as a full-member state, despite U.S. assurances of a swift cut in 20 percent of the organizations funding, showcases the international community’s ability and resolve to resist and counteract U.S. power. However,...

Column: Penn State must reconsider priorities, cancel season

November 17, 2011
It’s been impossible to dodge the top sports story of the past two weeks. Jerry Sandusky, former defensive coordinator at the legendary Pennsylvania State University football program, was indicted on charges alleging that he sexually assaulted eight young boys he met through his charity, the Second Mile, over the course of 15 years. In the ensuing fallout over allegations of a cover up, two other officials have been indicted for perjury, and Joe Paterno, the famous Nittany Lions head coach of the Nittany Lions of 46 years, was fired.

Letter: Students should have open mind about Occupy

November 17, 2011
I wouldn’t have considered myself an activist last year. I know college is the time to chain myself to a tree while the city tries to chop it down, but I never found any real hope in standing in a peace circle and singing Kumbaya.

Editorial: College Expectation List needs students support

November 17, 2011
This week, The News reported the Student Government Association (SGA) proposed creation of a College Expectation List that requires all eight colleges within Northeastern to follow a specific set of guidelines. The list is not binding, but it is a group of suggestions meant to spark dialogue between the group and administrators. Regardless, it remains to be seen whether SGA can institute these far-reaching goals.

Letter: Students should participate in Homecoming

November 11, 2011
Throughout my past three years at Northeastern, I’ve attended countless student events. From Springfest to dance recitals, A Cappella shows to career fairs – I feel like I’ve seen it all. However, over the years, there has only been one series of events that I think truly appeals to all Northeastern students, regardless of background, major, interests or career path – Homecoming.

Column: Apparel drive kicks off the holiday spirit

November 10, 2011
Not everyone agrees with the outrageously early endorsements, but let’s face it: The holiday season is upon us. Dunkin’ Donuts is already selling gingerbread-flavored coffee. Starbucks is serving peppermint mochas in seasonal red cups. Macy’s at Downtown Crossing is already displaying wreaths, garland, and twinkle lights around jewelry cases and near clothing racks. CVS already replaced the fall pumpkin-shaped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups with pine tree-shaped chocolates.

Letter: ‘Mayoral’ candidate asks for campus support

November 10, 2011
To my fellow Huskies, I'm running for Mayor of Huntington Avenue and I'm asking for your support in my efforts to represent our university.

Editorial: Restitution fund places too much blame on students

November 10, 2011
The News reported this week that the Mission Hill Problem Properties Task Force is currently in talks with area schools, including Northeastern, to establish a restitution fund for Mission Hill residents to claim monetary compensation when their property is vandalized, with the assumption that it is caused by college students. While the amount of money Northeastern would be required to donate per year is fairly small, it doesn’t seem right that students are being blamed for all the damage done to residences on the Hill.
