“Throughout my years of elementary and even high school, when someone would ask, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ my answer was always the same — a hockey player,” Masters said in an email to The News.

Head coach Dave Flint and the Northeastern University (NU) women’s hockey team knew they were in for a test when the talented Concordia University visited Matthews Arena for a preseason match-up on Saturday. The match was heavily contested, ending in a 3-2 final score.
The Northeastern University men’s and women’s cross country teams travelled separately last weekend, with athletes racing in Boston and Charlottesville, Virginia. The women finished in 22nd place while the men finished in 19th.
The highlight of Friday’s Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opener against UNCW was outside hitter Amy Underdown’s performance. The second year posted 28 kills in the match — a number that has not been achieved by a Northeastern player since Lauren DeTurk in 2008.

The team raised money for cancer research at the Rhode Island Open Water Swim put on by the non-profit Swim Across America on Sept. 9. They raised over $11,000 in support of gynecological and breast cancer research at Women and Infants Hospital in Rhode Island,
“The NU field hockey team had never made it to an NCAA tournament before at all,” Murtagh said. “The fact that this group of women believed that they could do it was phenomenal. Once they did, they didn’t stop there. It was kind of like, okay, this is how we expect things to be.”
