As part of an occasional series, The News ambushed unsuspecting students and demanded they justify the songs that played when their iPods were put on shuffle, however embarrassing.
Here are the results.
Becca Arcidiacono, freshman, undeclared
âJoin Togetherâ by The Who
âThis song is my favorite song by The Who. It is really upbeat and catchy and gets me pumped up.â
âThe Middleâ by Jimmy Eat World
âI knew the song when I was little, and then I started playing it on Rock Band and learned all the words. It is a good song.â
âGravity Rides Everythingâ by Modest Mouse
âThis is my favorite Modest Mouse song because it is calming. I listen to it all the time because it puts me in a good mood. The lyrics have personal meaning to me which is also why I like it.â
âThis Townâ by Sex God
âThis song really makes me think about my hometown, Pleasantville, N.Y. It is kind of depressing so I listen to it when I am in a sad mood.â
Ryan Punzalan, middler, journalism major
âMonsterâ by Kanye West (feat. Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, and Bon Iver)
âIt always gets me hyped as they say, and I will always start rapping Nicki Minajâs part because itâs absolutely absurd and ridiculous.â
âSliding Down the Poleâ by E-40
âProbably the dirtiest song on my iPhone at the moment. Letâs just say the title of the song explains it all.â
âHere Comes the Hotstepperâ by Ini Kamoze
âOne of my favorite dancehall songs of all time. I practically play this song every day since it gets me on my feet and ready for the day.â
âFind Your Loveâ by Drake
âIâm not a huge Drake fan. âFind Your Loveâ will always be my favorite. I guess I like his singing voice rather than his monotone rapping voice.â
Colleen Murphy, freshman, business major
âInstant Pleasureâ by Seth Swirsky
âI donât really like this song much, to be honest. I have not listened to it in years. I probably should take it off my iPod, it is wasting space.â
âSpotlightâ by Gucci Mane
âThis is a good pre-game song before a hockey game. It is a catchy tune that gets stuck in your head.â
âGives You Hellâ by The All-American Rejects
âThis song got annoying real fast. It kind of makes me angry, like I would want to punch something.â
âCry for Youâ by September
âI would not specifically choose to listen to this song, but in a shuffle it is nice to get a random song like that. It is techno so the beat is pretty cool.â
