For most Real World alums, it seems life both on and off the hit MTV show is anything but “real.” For Clyde ‘Ace’ Amerson, Randy Barry and Cameran Eubanks, promotional tours are all part of the post-Real World gig.
Cameran and Randy, both from “The Real World: San Diego,” joined Ace from “The Real World: Paris” to catch up with fans of the show. The three former cast members stopped by Sprint stores on Boylston Street and Harvard Square to answer questions, sign autographs and take pictures with those who remain loyal to the show, which is currently in its 14th season.
The Sprint-sponsored event was designed to attract college students — and that it did. College students came into the store to shake hands with the Real Worlders and get the inside scoop on what really goes on “when people stop being polite, and start getting real.”
For Cameran, Ace and Randy, no questions were off-limits. They were all willing to talk to fans and ready to greet anyone with both a handshake and a smile.
Randy is a Boston native who attended the Art Institute of Boston and can name endless bars he has worked in throughout the city. Randy said going on the show was all about having fun.
“I didn’t go on the show not to have a good time,” he said. “You have to go through a lot to get on the Real World, it’s a very long process. There are two to three months before you go on the show of waiting and anxiety, so when you actually get there you want to just have as much fun as possible. And that’s exactly what I did.”
Despite his love for San Diego, Randy said he is still a Boston boy at heart.
“I will always be an east coast kid. California is nice to visit, but I could never live there, I am back to living in Boston now,” Randy said.
Although she expressed dislike for Randy’s Boston accent early in the season, there is one thing Boston has that Cameran does like.
“Oh my gosh I cant believe you guys got to see the parade on this street, I had to watch it on TV. Ya’ll are so lucky, I love Tom Brady. I’m so jealous,” Cameran said.
On Saturday, Cameran, 19, from South Carolina, was all smiles and friendly with anyone willing to talk. When a fan told her how pretty she was in person, she responded with, “Girl, look at you.”
Cameran admitted her getting a spot on “The Real World” was a total fluke.
“I tried out for the show on a total whim. I went to Atlanta to try out and had never even considered that I would be chosen for the show. It was the first time I had even thought about trying out, and I got it,” Cameran said. “I loved every minute of it. How could you not? Seventy-five degree weather everyday with no rain, it was wonderful.”
Ace, 24, is known for his southern accent and happy-go-lucky charm, which is just what fans got from him this weekend. Ace was prepared to spill the beans on some of his former cast members he is not so fond of. For those “Real World” fanatics out there, he said he is no longer on speaking terms with Leah or C.T., who have turned into “superstars” with big egos. He also has a bone to pick through his appearance on MTV’s “The Inferno” with Coral.
“She is even meaner in real life than she is on TV,” Ace said.
Despite their newfound fame from the show, all three former cast members are still living in their hometowns.
“I am still living in Georgia right now. I own two restaurants and I am about to open a 24-hour gym,” Ace said.
When asked about his on-screen romance with former roommate Mallory, Ace did not divulge whether or not the two were still dating.
“She’s doing great. She’s actually doing some modeling right now out in Los Angeles,” Ace said.
Although it took awhile for him to adjust to Paris, Ace admitted he loves the city now and is planning on taking a trip back there this summer.
“I loved it, I wouldn’t change a thing, and I would do it all over again if I could,” he said.
Regional Sales Manager at the Boylston store Marty Wick said this event is the beginning in a series of events to attract college-age customers.
“We decided there are thousands and thousands of college-age students in Boston, so we knew we needed a good idea to be able to reach out and talk to them,” Wick said. “We teamed up with a marketing company that specializes in attracting college students to put this event together. We are happy with the turnout we received.”
Wick said he has watched the show before, but hasn’t kept up his viewing since the Hawaii season.
Fans of the show were also pleased with how friendly the cast members were.
“We watch the show all the time. Cameran is our favorite, we would do anything for her,” said Blake Campany, a Boston College student.
“She was even nicer then we thought she would be. She had that great southern hospitality.”
