Join Denis Leary and friends for The Fifth Annual Celebrity Hat Trick, Hockey’s Greatest Skate for America’s Bravest.
The event will take place on Sunday, Oct. 3, at 3 p.m. at the FleetCenter. Leary, the actor/comedian of “Rescue Me” fame, created the event to benefit his Leary Firefighters Foundation.
Hockey’s Greatest players will include, among others, Johnny “Chief” Bucyk, Cam Neely, Pat LaFontaine, Ken Hodge, John “Pie” McKenzie, Rick Middleton, and coaches Bobby Orr and Derek Sanderson.
Hollywood supporters who will participate include Lenny Clarke, Tim Robbins, Kiefer Sutherland, Michael J. Fox, Steve Buscemi, Scott Wolf, and many others, according to a press release from the FleetCenter.
“I am so proud that this event has been around for five years,” said Leary, president of The Leary Firefighters Foundation. “The support we have received from firefighters, Hollywood and fans of hockey has been amazing.”
The Leary Firefighters Foundation was founded in 2000 by Leary in response to the deadly December 1999 Worcester fire. Over 75 firefighters responded to the fire at an abandonded warehouse in the city, with six never making it out.
One was Leary’s cousin, Jeremiah Lucey, while another was Lt. Tommy Spencer, a childhood friend and high school classmate.
The Leary Firefighters Foundation has, through its history, distributed more than $3 million to the Worcester Fire Department and the New York Fire Department. The funds have built The Leary Firefighters Foundation and EMC Corporation Burn Tower and Training Facility, which serves sixty fire departments in Worcester, the release said.
The foundation has also distributed money directly to the families of the 343 NYC firefighters who lost their lives in the World Trade Center tragedy, the release also noted.
The game will be presented by EMC Corporation and MasterCard International.
In addition to EMC Corporation and MasterCard International, other sponsors of the event include Allen and Gerritsen, American Airlines, Boston Bruins, Carey, FleetCenter, Herald Media Group, Nine Zero, Reebok/CCM, Papa Ginos, Sam Adams, Tudor Investments, WAAF, WEEI, and many others.
