Men’s basketball head coach Ron Everhart announced his team’s 2004-05 schedule this week. Highlighting the schedule is a Dec. 6 preseason trip for a match up with the defending national champion University of Connecticut Huskies. UConn is coached by former NU head coach Jim Calhoun and is a preseason favorite to win the Big East and make another run in the NCAA tournament.
Calhoun coached at Northeastern from 1972-1985 and his all time wins record of 248-137 is still tops in school history.
In his final three seasons at Northeastern, Calhoun earned NCAA tournament bids each year, something Everhart is looking to do for the first time this season.
Northeastern will also play at the University of Massachusetts, on Dec. 1, in a non-conference game. Northeastern travels to brand new Agganis Arena to face off against conference rival Boston University, on Feb. 20, for the last regular season match up with the hated Terriers as a member of the America East. Northeastern moves to the Colonial Athletic Association starting next year.
The Huskies begin play on Nov. 19, at the Marist Tournament in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
