If the wood grilled pizza in Stetson West isn’t cutting it, walk a few blocks down Hemenway Street to Woo-dy’s Grill ‘ Tap — a 6-year-old casual restaurant and pub near The Fenway that takes the Husky card.
“Many pizza houses can’t afford to install a wood grill, so Woody’s has gained a following,” according to an article in the Boston Globe from Sept. 12, 2003. Because of the wood fire oven, the crust is said to be the right amount of crispiness — as long as the chef pulls the pizza out just in time with a light browning.
The menu’s prices range from $6 to $12; which is affordable for college students.
Though the dimly-lit restaurant may be quaint in size, the extensive menu selection, ranging from burgers to their specialty, brick oven pizzas, makes Woody’s a worthwhile dining establishment.
Woody’s takes the simple, conventional thin crust pizza and adds an extensive and distinct combination of toppings, making their pie a refreshing change for this area of town. Attracting students from Northeastern, Berklee School of Music and Massachusetts College of Art, among others, this pizza parlor makes for a delicious alternative to walk-in diners and Dominoes.
Tucked away here on the corner of Hemenway and Westland, Woody’s is ideal for those looking for a good meal at a reasonable price without the conventionality of nearby New York-style pizzerias.
