During an altercation occurring after a birthday party Saturday night on Columbus Avenue, Gregory Bennett thought he had “gotten a dead arm or something.”
But when Bennett looked down and saw the blood, he knew he had been stabbed.
Bennett, 19, said a scuffle ensued after several people arrived at a party being held in his building, 610 Columbus Ave. The middler business major was then stabbed in the upper left arm, said Boston Police spokes-man John Boyle.
“We had asked them to leave, [and] they refused to leave. They then began pushing their way in and we were pushing our way out, and the kid pulled a knife,” Bennett said. “The first punch that was thrown was the knife.”
Officers later arrested Bryan Skurka, 18, a Wentworth Insti-tute of Technology student, for allegedly stabbing Bennett. He was charged with assault and battery with the intent to murder by means of a dangerous weapon.
Skurka was arraigned in Roxbury District Court Monday and his bail was set at $1,500 cash, said David Procopio, spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney. Skurka has also been ordered to stay away from Bennett, Procopio said.
A large number of BPD officers responded to the scene immediately, Bennett said.
“All my friends were there for me, taking care of me, and there happened to be a BPD officer patrolling the area, so within seconds there were like nine police officers there, and within a minute the ambulance was there,” Bennett said.
Bennett was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he was treated for a single stab wound to the left arm and later released.
Bennett said he feels fortunate to still have his life.
“I’m just lucky it caught me in the arm and no where else,” he said.
