Northeastern junior point guard Jose Juan Barea had another impressive summer playing for his native Puerto Rico in The Coca-Cola Global Games in June.
The 2003-04 All-America East guard led all players in scoring by dropping 28.5 points per game including 35 against the USA in the bronze medal game. Despite his efforts, Puerto Rico lost that game in overtime 107-106.
“I hope I can build on this and have a better season than last year,” said Barea.
Even more impressive than his scoring average was his three-point percentage. The free-shooting Barea, a career 34 percent three-point shooter at NU hit 43.6 percent of his long range shots during the tournament, slightly better than his 42.4 feild-goal percentage.
“It was crazy,” Barea said. “I shot a lot of threes.”
Shooting a lot of threes actually isn’t at all out of character for Barea. The Huskies’ leading scorer the past two seasons, has attempted 356 treys over his career and led the America East in three-point percentage in 2003-2004.
