Freshman year has certain rites of passage. Dining hall food, 8 a.m. classes and randomly-assigned roommates. Perhaps most importantly, freshman year is characterized by communal bathrooms, tiny bedrooms and less-than-soundproof walls.
In an article published last week titled “Design for Building F set,” The News reported that West Village F, the last addition to the West Village series, will be set aside for freshman honors students. The residence hall will boast six-person duplex apartments which include bathrooms and kitchens. The only difference between West Village F and upperclassman housing is there won’t be single bedrooms.
The freshman year housing experience builds character. It puts students in close quarters and forces them to make friends in a new place. It’s a trial by fire that instills a true appreciation for Northeastern’s cushy upperclassman accommodations. If students come into the university and start out with a kitchen and a bathroom in a six-person duplex, what will they have to look forward to?
