I want to start by saying that overall I enjoy The Northeastern News. However, I must admit that I was shaken when I was reading through the classifieds and came across an ad reading “Girls Wanted to be Adult Film Stars!” Initially I assumed it was a joke. But as I looked more closely I realized that our school newspaper was actually advertising a need for adult film stars.
I am not one to preach about this sort of thing, but I was personally disappointed in The Northeastern News for printing such an ad. I like to think that I attend a respectable university that focuses on making its students into better people who are, or will become, productive members of society. I understand people who want to do these sorts of things will seek them out regardless of how they are advertised. But, all I could think about was all the girls who are struggling to pay their student loans who may come across this and see it as the only solution. There is other respectable work out there, and that is what should be advertised.
To make matters worse, the ad promises trips all over the world, fancy cars and money to burn. Now, what college kid wouldn’t want those things? All in all, we’re better than this.
Northeastern is known for its excellent career services, and if you ask me, this will not help our reputation in that area or any other.
