As a local resident and a grad from the class of ’91 I would like to say that there are more than a few of us out here in the community who have seen this kind of problem coming for a long time.
I have had to call the police two times in the last month for problems in front of my own house that include damage to my property and a drunken brawl. I’ve gotten used to finding urine and/or vomit on my front steps. In my e-mail to President Freeland after the riot I explained that I would never again give NU a good recommendation or donate to any fund.
All of this outrage from the student body about Springfest is so indignant that it’s a joke. I’m not sure [the cancellation] was the right response for the riot or the behavior of students, but I am glad the issue has gotten this big. It needs this kind of attention and there was really no way to get the attention of so many students.
