Both the Northeastern men’s and women’s track teams got multiple wins in their season openers on Saturday when they hosted their annual Husky Carnival at the Reggie Lewis Center. Despite there being no team standings for the meet, the Huskies had a combined eight first place finishes.

Dalton won the high jump with a jump of 6-feet-6-inches, while Grigg won the long jump with a jump of 22-feet-9.25-inches
Payne picked up where he left off last year by winning the 400 with ease with a time of 48.35, which already surpasses the IC4A Championship qualifying standard of 49.15.
The women picked up five individual first place finishes on the day along with a first place finish in the 4×400 relay.
Junior Jordine Kimbrel won the 55-dash with a winning time of 7.13, while fellow junior Aquila Williams-Judge won the 55-hurdles with a winning time of 8.04.
Like Payne for the men, senior Ahndraea Allen picked up right where she left off last season with a convincing win in the 400. Allen’s time of 54.93 was almost four seconds faster than teammate Charity Briggs who finished second with a time of 58.87. Junior middle distance runner Amy Hicks took first in the 1000 with a winning time of 2:58.09 while junior vaulter Laura Chmielewski won the pole vault with a vault of 12-feet-6-inches.
For the 4×400 relay, coach Sherman Hart sent out an all-freshman squad and helped the rookies earn their first college victories. The team of Meredith Bohne, Tramaine Shaw, Alison Warren and Briggs won the race in 3:57.50.
The America East honored two Huskies for their performances in the Husky Carnival. For his efforts in the 400, Payne was named the America East Track Performer of the Week and Chmielewski earned America East Field Performer of the Week after winning the pole-vault.
Last indoor season Payne was named Most Outstanding Track Performer. He won the 200 in an NU record and meet record time of 21.45 seconds, won the 400 in a meet record of 47.21 and anchored the third-place 4×400 relay. Outdoors, he won the 200 and 400, then anchored NU’s 4 x 400 relay to a fourth-place finish. He was named Most Outstanding Track Performer again. Last indoor season, she set the NU record and New England Championship record of 12-feet-9.5-inches to win the New England title and placed 10th at the ECAC Championship.
