By vetoing the emergency contraception bill last week, Romney has cleared up any remaining doubt about where the constituency he’s concerned about lives- and it isn’t in Massachusetts. The fact that he’s more focused on running for president than running the Commonwealth is hardly news, but to veto a bill with such overwhelming support in both the public and the legislature is a whole new level of disrespect for the people who elected him. Even for Romney. Having an unpopular opinion based on principle is one thing, but blatantly using such an important issue as a political tool to be manipulated in whatever way best suits his needs at the moment is something else. When running for office in 2002, Romney responded on a Planned Parenthood questionnaire that he would support increased access to emergency contraception. Apparently that was then, and this and now.
