Dreary weather and competition with the Red Sox victory parade did not stop some students from rallying support for the Homecoming game on Saturday at the Council for University Programs’ (CUP) Homecoming carnival in Krentzman Quad.
Students enjoyed free candy apples, fried dough and cotton candy with hot chocolate, cider and coffee to keep them warm. Free Homecoming 2004 shirts and picture key chains were also available.
The Class Council of 2008, the only specific class represented at the carnival, raffled off a Playstation and a DVD player.
“We were the only ones hardcore enough to have [our] own table,” said Kevin Roche, a sophomore math and computer science major.
CUP president Allyson Savin said there was a relatively steady flow of people throughout the day, picking up as students came back from the Red Sox parade.
“Had it been a bright, sun-shiny day with no Red Sox and no World Series, this would have been really good,” Savin said. “But with situations like these, you just have to roll with the punches.”
Savin and the two Homecoming chairs, Amanda Bergin and Julie Hershkowitz, said this Homecoming was a learning experience and that they are looking forward to next year.
“I am here to show my Husky pride and school spirit,” said Nick Goss, a middler criminal justice major. “Plus, I was promised punch and pie.”
The Class of 1959 also passed through the carnival during their 45-year reunion.
Coordinators scaled the event down but still had plenty to offer, Savin said. The carnival would have had inflatable, bouncy boxing, a small putting green and face painting.
