Not since the impeachment proceeding of President Bill Clinton have politics and sex been so closely linked as they are on the Web site www.votergasm.org.
This youth campaign uses sex as a means to lure people into the political process – asking participants to pledge to either sleep with a voter on election night or withhold sex from a non-voter for an undetermined amount of time.
It works like this:
First, the site asks you to register to vote, and then actually cast your ballot. Then a series of parties will be held for members of the Web site to meet other voters, specifically for the purpose of taking them home for sexual interaction. While it may seem like promiscuity, all participants consent to this course of action and are well aware of what they’re getting into due to the nine-step process. Although the site claims it takes nine steps to fulfill the Votergasm promise, it should be noted that four of those steps are varying sexual positions.
In addition to rallying young political support, the site offers tutorials like “How to contact your elected officials” while using scantily-clad models (who make blatant sexual references) to act out the scenes.
Using slogans like, “Voting is like making love to your country. Making love is, like, awesome,” the site makes its point. And last night, a number of voters most likely got lucky. Because what better way to attract young voters than to appeal to their libidos?
