Cross-country competes in AE championships
Freshman Tom Brown took the 49th overall spot at the America East cross-country championships Saturday at the University of New Hampshire, as the Huskies placed ninth overall at the event.
With 280 overall points, Northeastern beat out the University of Hartford (300) to avoid a last-place finish.
The University of Maine took home the event’s top prize with 28 points, beating out host UNH (58) and Stony Brook University (71).
Brown was the Huskies’ top finisher with a time of 26:58, while fellow fresmen distance runners Brian Van Epps (61st, 27:20) and Seth Housman (64th, 27:29) took home NU’s next two spots.
Anthony Traux of UNH was America East’s top runner with a final time of 24:27, narrowly defeating Michael Lansing of Maine (24:31.40) and Stony Brook’s Dale Summerville (24:32.20).
On the women’s side, junior Stephanie Morrison was the team’s top finisher at 18th overall (18:29) in leading the Huskies to an eighth place overall finish.
Emily Watson (25th, 18:41.50) and Amy Hicks (27th, 18:43.60) also finished well for the Huskies as the team finished with 173 points.
Boston University finished the day with top women’s prize with 27 points, ahead of UNH (85) and Stony Brook (93).
NU beat out Maine (188) and Hartford (330) on the day.
Swimming defends home pool in 167-125 win
The Northeastern swim team took it to the Boston University Terriers Saturday at Barletta Natatorium, winning 14 of 16 events en route to a 167-125 victory. The win gives the Huskies their first America East win.
Senior co-captain Emily Rochefort won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.40, edging out fellow senior Kristen Kane who placed second with a time of 1:08.83.
Juniors Sarah Reddick and Emily Crookall-Nixon both had two victories on the day, with Reddick winning the 100-yard freestyle (54.84) and 100-yard butterfly (58.13) and Crookall-Nixon earning nine points in both the 200-yard free (1:58.14) and 200-yard backstroke (2:10.11).
Three freshmen won events for the Huskies Saturday. Coryn Voels won the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.05), Emily Ferrier took first in the 50-yard free (25.84) and Polhemus Talisin won the one-meter diving with a final score of 292.15.
The Huskies are back in their home pool this Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host Central Connecticut State University and Southern Connecticut State University. Barletta Natatorium is located in the Cabot Center.
