I don’t know even know where to begin. Wasn’t it enough to run three negative stories on the best linebacker to ever play at Northeastern?Apparently not. Your staff at Norheastern News wanted to do it again, and this time you printed a completely bias article in the Sports section. Professional? I don’t think so. I think it is a disgrace that you even allowed such a negative article about Liam Ezekiel after he just signed a contract with an NFL team.
But, now that you’ve already ripped apart someone you don’t even know once again in your paper- I would like to speak my mind as one of the few people who know him well.
First of all, in regard to Liam Ezekiel’s character. I would pretty much bet my life on the fact that he has more character than most people, let alone just athletes. He is much more than “an emotionless piece of a puzzle.” Did he make a mistake with a teammate after practice? Yes. It was a bad decision on his part, but I don’t know many people who haven’t made a few mistakes in life. He owned up to his mistake, and he took the punishment for it. He apologized to his teammate, he was suspended for a game and then some, and he was suspended from school.
As for not calling you back Max- unfortunately, it was not his “maturity, or lack-there-of”; instead, he was advised not to make any comments whatsoever. It was anything but a maturity issue. The second attempt to get Ezekiel to call you back- that didn’t go so well either, but that is because he did not care to talk to another person from the newspaper- he was, and is past the “incident” and it is too bad that you people can’t be, too.
Now, I just have a few more things to say. There is no arguing with the fact that Liam Ezekiel is an extraordinary football player. According to your article, he is slow, unathletic and not agile. I would beg to differ. Maybe you should actually do your homework on him, and you would see that your jealousy or dislike for him is not accurate. He has proved at the combine, at the East-West Shrine game, and at the Buffalo Bills minicamp that he can compete with the best of them. For example, he had some of the fastest times on the agility drills at the NFL Combine. Not to mention he weighs 250 pounds, more than a lot of NFL linebackers.
Time can only tell what will happen to this “underdog” though. I just hope the Northeastern News can decide whether to be proud of him (being from your college), or to continue raining on his parade. I will tell you one thing, though- either way, he will not care- he has moved on to bigger and better things. You should, too.
(Basically, I believe that Liam deserves a lot more credit for his accomplishments. I can understand that Max Lederman is trying to make a name for himself and stir up emotions, get people talking… I know how it is, and I am not saying media is fair. Liam will have a lot more to deal with down the line- I just cannot believe that as an editor, you would allow such an article. You have to remember, Liam Ezekiel is a peer and a fellow student of Northeastern. He has done more than anyone for the football program here, as well.)
