Northeastern President Joseph E. Aoun has appointed former Suffolk County district attorney and Northeastern alumnus Ralph Martin as the university’s senior vice president and general counsel, according to a university release yesterday.
Martin, who is also a member of the Northeastern Board of Trustees, currently works as the managing partner of Bingham McCutchen LLP’s Boston office. As senior vice president and general counsel, Martin will oversee the university’s legal portfolio as well as master planning, compliance and risk management and the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity.
“Ralph Martin brings a unique and powerful combination of strengths to Northeastern,” President Aoun said in a statement. “He has a penetrating legal mind, experience as a leader, and a commitment to civic engagement. As the university expands globally, we remain deeply connected to our surrounding communities. Ralph’s many skills will be tremendous assets on this exciting journey.”
Martin said he is excited to take on the new role at his alma mater.
“Northeastern represents many of the ideals I have spent a lifetime promoting: education, civic engagement, and leadership,” Martin said. “As a longtime member of the Northeastern community, I have watched the university transform itself from a local institution into a global enterprise. I look forward to working with President Aoun and the senior leadership team to take Northeastern to even greater heights.”
Current Vice President and University Counsel Vincent Lembo will remain a top adviser to Aoun after Martin assumes the position in March.
