iPod Ambush

By Brenda Maguire, News Correspondent

As part of an occasional series, The News ambushed unsuspecting students and demanded they justify the songs that played when their  iPods were put on shuffle,  however embarrassing. Here are the results.

Maya Richards, freshman, undeclared

“Invade my Soul” by Mumford and Sons
“I like the genre of Mumford and Sons. I like how it’s just basically guitar and drums. Nothing too crazy or overproduced, and it has good lyrics”

“Phantom Limb” by The Shins
“The Shins are one of my favorite bands and I think I like it for the same reason that I like Mumford and Sons. It’s a similar genre with just the guitar and drums and good lyrics.”

“Count on Me” by Bruno Mars
“I actually have that song because I downloaded it for a slideshow that I had to do and I wanted to use it. I don’t really listen to it that much.”

“We are Family” by Sister Sledge
“That is the same reason. It was used in the same slideshow.”

“Love” by Matt White
“I like that song because it’s upbeat, happy and fun.”

Jeff Pitts, freshman, biochemistry

“The Few That Remain” by Set Your Goals
“I’ve been listening to Set Your Goals for three months now. It was actually one of my friends who introduced me to them. So, I’ve been listening to them lately.”

“No Boy” by The Velvet Team
“I have no idea. I stole some music from my friend, so I don’t even know who they are.”

“Slow Cheetah” by Red Hot Chili Peppers
“That’s another one of the bands I really like so that’s why that’s on there.”

“Bus by Big Boi” by Outkast
“I actually went through a year where I loved Outkast.”

“Glamorous Indie Rock ’n Roll” by The Killers
“I mean, The Killers, you can’t have anything against them, they’re always great.”

Marissa Keaner, sophomore, communications studies

“Today has Been Okay” by Emiliana Torrini
“I don’t even know what this is, it has zero plays. It’s from a Grey’s Anatomy soundtrack and I went through a Grey’s phase and downloaded the whole discography and that’s why that’s on there, but I’ve never listened to it.”

“Rainy Monday” by Shiny Toy Guns
“It’s from junior year of high school when I thought I was cool and listened to electronic stuff. Also at zero plays.”

“Bats in the Belfry” by Dispatch
“It’s from a random live album. I love Dispatch.”

“Fool’s Gold” by Adrienne Pierce
“Another Grey’s Anatomy song.”

“It’s Going Down” by Young Joc
“I think it was on a basketball warm-up or something, that’s how I have most of my rap. It’s kind of random.”
