Sean Maloney has been a face of Northeastern as long as I have been here. In his roles as vice president for student services and executive vice president, he has the long-term experience in Student Government Association (SGA) to advocate for student’s at large. Yet, with all this experience comes some wisdom – he is realistic in knowing he cannot be at every students’ beck and call, but would like to work with senators to improve how they represent their colleges or special interest groups.
Sean is an extremely approachable individual who is at once your best friend and big brother. Despite his calm demeanor and friendliness, he is not afraid to speak his mind to the administration and advocate for students. He did this many times as vice president for student services and was instrumental in implementing change such as the improvements in Outtakes and sustainability initiatives like Recyclemania. He also has shown a loyalty to his word by not campaigning through the ostentatious and obnoxious method of chalking.
Sean is also a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary – a select group of individuals who represent the top one percent of leaders who live in on-campus housing. Through this membership, Sean displays a dedication to community service, scholastics and leadership development. This is very evident in both his position as a resident assistant as well as a founding father of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
I’ve personally known Sean for nearly two years now, and I genuinely consider him one of my good friends. However, I know that his friendship is not what will make him the best next student body president. It is his passion, Husky pride and determination that propel him above his competition.
