Google, Northeastern settle lawsuit
Northeastern University has settled its lawsuit against Google, Inc. after three and a half years. The suit, originally filed Nov. 6, 2007, alleged Google infringed upon US patent No. 5,694,593, entitled, “Distributed Computer Database System and Method,” which is owned by associate professor in the College of Computer and Information Sciences Kenneth P. Baclawski. The suit alleged that Google was using Baclawski’s database search method without proper credit or compensation.
“[Northeastern and Baclawski’s Jarg Corporation] have suffered damages as a result of Google’s infringement and will continue to suffer damages as a result of Google’s continued infringement,” said the original complaint, filed in Texas Eastern District Court.
The dismissal was officially granted April 15, but the settlement amount was not made public by court documents.
