Simon Fraser University president pays up
Andrew Petter, president of Vancouver’s Simon Fraser University, posted a picture of himself wearing a Boston Bruins jersey online and sent President Joseph Aoun a British Columbian salmon, upholding his end of the wager the two presidents made over the Bruins/Canucks Stanley Cup Final series.
Matthews Arena, home of the Northeastern Huskies hockey programs and the oldest indoor hockey rink in North America, was the original home of the Boston Bruins. Simon Fraser University has three campuses in British Columbia, one of which is just steps from the Canucks’ Rogers Arena.

Universities, federal officials discuss loan program
President Joseph Aoun met with presidents from seven universities nationwide and federal education officials at the US Department of Education in Washington D.C. last week to discuss ways to preserve the Perkins Loan program. The program, which provides more than $1 billion a year in need-based aid to college students, is on track for elimination in 2014.
“We’re here to have a dialogue on the important issue of college affordability,” President Aoun said in a statement. “Our goal … is to discuss this issue and develop some principles for moving forward.”
