NU named one of Top 10 least affordable
Northeastern was named one of the 10 least affordable colleges in America by CNNMoney July 5. According to the list, the net price for Northeastern is $32,703 and about 86 percent of freshman receive financial aid. The net price is determined by the average costs after tuition, room and board, book fees and financial aid. The tool was part of a mandate passed by Congress in 2008 in an attempt to reveal the true costs of attending college. The list also included Saint Joseph’s University, New York University, Fordham University and Drexel University.
Study finds good news for corporate recovery
A study published in May by four researchers from Northeastern’s Center for Labor Market Studies found that since economic recovery officially began in June 2009, 88 percent of the growth has been in corporate profits, while workers’ wages and benefits have only seen a one percent growth. According to the study, workers’ wages saw a 50 percent growth rate during the recovery following the recession in the early 1990s, while corporate profits saw a minor decline during the same recovery period. The study was lead by professor Andrew Sum and Center for Labor Market Studies Senior Administrator Sheila Palma.
