9/15 iPod Ambush

By Erin Farnsworth

News Correspondent

As part of an occasional series, The News ambushed unsuspecting students and demanded they justify the songs that played when their iPods were put on shuffle, however embarrasing.

Here are the results.

Taylor Cutler, Freshman, Communications

1. “You are Here” by NeedToBreathe
“I like how it sounds. I have their whole album.”

2. “The Two of Us” by ‘N Sync
“Because it’s ‘N Sync. Duh.”

3. “Coffee Shop Soundtrack” by All Time Low
“My friend actually downloaded this one. I don’t even like it.”

4. “There’s a Class for This” by Cute Is What We Aim For
“I liked it in, like, 9th grade. Damn, I hate shuffle.”

5. “Better Together” by Jack Johnson
“I used it for a photo montage. It’s a very happy song.”

Matt Kersey, Sophomore, Music Industry

1. “Right as Rain” by Adele
“The song is just simple and honest in its message. Sometimes you want to accept that things in life are bad and not just laugh it off. Also, her voice is incredible.”

2. “Out of Sight” by Smash Mouth
“I love Smash Mouth because they’re fun and they do unexpected things with their ska, rock style.”

3. “Don’t Let Me Down” by No Doubt
“I love the sound of the band in general, the fusion between electronic and rock. The band can
adapt to different types of moods, and the song is all around peppy.”

4. “Goodbye” by Alicia Keys
“It’s really raw, and the piano is really exposed, which brings out a really powerful emotion.
Like, sadness.”

5. “Say You’ll Go” by Janelle Monáe
“It’s a mix between soulful, raw R&B and electronic instruments, with a sci-fi element. It’s a
one of a kind sound that I’ve never heard with any other artist.”

Nathan Lilienthal, Freshman, Computer Science and Digital Art

1. “Red Baron of WW3” by Gramatik
“It’s got good beats. It’s a well rounded, non-dubstep techno song. It’s especially fun to listen to
when it’s loud.”

2. “Little House” by The Fray
“The piano in this one is great. The Fray is generally good with piano. Decent singing, too.”

3. “Desert Eagle” by Ratatat
“Ratatat is very original. This song is a good example of their hip style.”

4. “For Lack of a Better Name” by Deadmau5
“Deadmau5 has got good trance. He’s fun to listen to in the background or foreground.”

5. “Hanna’s Theme” by The Chemical Brothers
“When I listen to this song, I’m reminded of the movie [Hanna], which is an immediate win.”
