Northeastern students said they are sad to see Nutrition One close this month after more than 14 years of selling health and nutrition products.
“They seemed to be doing good business, it’s kind of a shock to me,” Kevin Clough, a sophomore English major and regular customer at Nutrition One, said.
Nutrition One is an independently owned retail store with a smoothie, frozen yogurt and protein shake bar, located next to Boloco in the university’s Marino Center. It opened in 1997.
The owner of Nutrition One, who declined to give his name to The News, is a graduate of Northeastern and confirmed that the store is closing.
He said that Friday will most likely be the day Nutrition One closes its doors, but there is a very slight chance that the store will be open Tuesday, because of the long weekend. He would not give a reason for, or comment further, on the closing.
Clough went to Nutrition One whenever he needed protein powder, but felt that it was a bit overpriced.
“I’d like to see another store like it because it’s a convenient location,” he said, “but with more selection and better prices.”
Sam Gupta, a freshman biomedical physics major, went to Nutrition One for the first time Wednesday looking for whey protein.
“It kind of sucks that it’s not going to be on campus anymore,” he said. Gupta would like to see some sort of frozen dessert store in its place.
Kristin Seidman, a sophomore business management and marketing major, said she will miss Nutrition One, but wants a store with frozen yogurt to take its place in the Marino Center.
“I’m very disappointed,” Seidman said. “I am going to have to go elsewhere for my ‘froyo.’”
Seidman visited Nutrition One about twice a month last year to get frozen yogurt and vitamin C supplements.
“With my horrible immune system and this weather,” she said, “I depended on Nutrition One.”
