For the second year in a row, Northeastern jumped double digits in the US News and World Report college rankings, reaching its highest placement ever: 69th.

Two years ago, Northeastern broke into the top 100 National Universities in the 96th spot. Last year, it went up to 80 and this year it rose another 11 spots to 69, tying with the University of Connecticut and Virginia Tech.

Admission representatives could not be reached for comment. Renata Nyul, director of marketing and communications, said the increased ranking showed the university’s momentum.

“While magazine rankings can’t fully capture the intellectual depth and richness of a place like Northeastern, it’s great to see external validation of our continued momentum and achievements,” Nyul said.

According to the US News website, rankings can change drastically each year because the ranking methodology changes each year. This year, more schools were ranked, graduation rate performance was weighed more heavily and high school counselors rankings were taken into consideration. In the category of top high school counselors, Northeastern was 47 in the nation.
