Southern cooking has found its way to Northeastern’s Curry Student Center through Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen, which has students lining up for its famous fried meals.
Some of the restaurant’s most popular combos include the Popcorn Shrimp and Bonafide Chicken, which both come with a side of your choice, a biscuit and a medium drink. The Louisiana Travelers’ three piece chicken tenders meal is also an all-time favorite among buyers.
Customers have an array of side dishes to pair with their meal with everything from fresh mashed potatoes to their popular Cajun Fries. If diners are still hungry, they can take advantage of Popeye’s tasty desserts which include cinnamon apple pie and cheesecake topped with confetti sprinkles.
“They have good, moist chicken. And the coleslaw and biscuit with it makes a cohesive meal. It reminded me of family BBQ,” Victoria Berger, a chemistry graduate student said.
Some students said they found it hard to find healthier meal choices on Popeye’s primarily fried menu.
“I had the chicken sandwich with mayo, lettuce and tomato. It was crispy and a pretty good piece of chicken, but it tasted unhealthy. I probably wouldn’t go back and choose another restaurant instead,” Halie Proulx, a middler human services major, said.
Despite its great taste, many students said they cannot help but notice its screaming prices. Many have even compared the prices to their local venues and concluded that this location’s are indeed inflated by a few extra dollars.
“Popeye’s is bomb, but their prices are ridiculous,” Zolan Kanno-Youngs, a sophomore journalism major, said.
