Politics aside, members of the Northeastern community can celebrate Maggie Hassan’s victory in the New Hampshire gubernatorial race Nov. 6, as the Northeastern alumna will become the second ever female governor in the state’s history.
Hassan, who graduated from the School of Law in 1985, defeated Republican challenger Ovide Lamontagne 54.6 percent to 42.5 percent.
Jeremy Paul, dean of the School of Law, offered his congratulations to Hassan in an email to The News.
“Northeastern School of Law congratulates Maggie Hassan upon her election as the second woman Governor in New Hampshire history,” Paul wrote. “We are proud of her long and distinguished record of public service fighting for children; for consumers, for marriage equality and for a greener future.”
After graduating from Northeastern, Hassan worked as an attorney, education adviser and New Hampshire senate majority leader.
“She provides inspiration to our students and to everyone in the Northeastern community, and we wish her every success,” Paul wrote.
