Bouvé College of Health Sciences Dean Terry Fulmer will chair a committee to explore making Northeastern a smoke-free campus, according to an email Fulmer sent to students Tuesday afternoon. Fulmer said the committee will seek out the input of students, faculty and staff.
“Over the coming months, the committee will seek input from students, faculty and staff through a series of surveys, meetings and forums,” Fulmer wrote in the email. “The committee will also review initiatives at other college campuses as we develop a set of recommendations for Northeastern.”
John Auerbach, who recently resigned as the Massachusetts Commissioner of Public Health, will co-chair the committee, Fulmer said.
“We are convening this group to look at this issue at a time when many universities across the country have become smoke-free,” Fulmer wrote. “While buildings on Northeastern’s campus are already smoke- and tobacco-free, we believe it is a good time to explore the potential for a campus-wide policy.”
