Students seeking a flu shot this winter can stop at University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS) for a free vaccine.
On Wednesday, Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino declared a public health emergency in the city, where approximately 700 influenza cases have been confirmed since Oct. 1, according to a statement from the mayor’s office. Last year, the statement said, there were just 70 total cases. Flu season traditionally continues until the end of March.
“This is the worst flu season we’ve seen since 2009, and people should take the threat of flu seriously,” Menino said. He advised anyone who is already sick to stay home from work and school.
In an email to The News, a university spokeswoman said the school encourages students to go to the UHCS office in the Forsyth Building to receive a free vaccine. The shots are administered on a walk-in basis Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 12 to 4 p.m.
