Nine scholarships being offered by university
‘ ‘ Nominations are being accepted for new scholarships that recognize the contributions of student leaders on campus, according to the Office of Student Affairs website. Nominations will be accepted until Friday and range in criteria like year and student group involvement. There are nine new scholarships that will award up to 18 students ranging from freshmen to seniors. Applications being accepted for student speaker
Applications for the 2009 Commencement student speaker are due Friday, March 13, according to the commencement website. Each year a graduating senior makes a 5 minute presentation at the Commencement ceremony, which this year will be held May 1. Seniors who wish to speak must send an application and typed, double-spaced, three-to-five page speech to the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs at 104 Ell Building, Northeastern University, Boston, MA 02115. The Student Speaker Selection Committee for the Class of 2009 will select five or six applications and then invite those selected students to deliver their speech before an audience of students and faculty Tuesday, March 31 at 5:30 p.m.’ For more information, visit www.northeastern.edu/commencement/springstudentspeaker.html.
Sex Week started Sunday, runs until Friday night
Northeastern’s annual Sex Week, sponsored by the Resident Student Association (RSA), began Sunday and will continue throughout the week, according to an e-mail from Jessica O’Neill, an RSA member. Sex Week 2009:’ The Seven Deadly Sins offers free, different colored T-shirts, each representing a different sin, at every event. There will also be free condoms and sex week magazines handed out at events.’ On Monday, ‘I Love the Female Orgasm’ will be held in the Curry Student Center ballroom at 7 p.m., followed by the Dating Game in afterHOURS at 9 p.m. Rabbi Schmuley, host of Shalom in the Home on TLC, will speak Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the ballroom, and the Newlywed Game will be in afterHOURS immediately following his appearance. A Speed Dating event in the West Addition will be held Wednesday at 8:30 pm. The pornography debate, featuring Ron Jeremy and Craig Gross, will be in the ballroom on Thursday at 7 p.m. An improvisation show called Sex Signals will be held Friday at 7 p.m., also in the ballroom.
